Buy a Bee ....help us raise more funds for 2011

As many of you know I am a huge bee fan....and I just love these amazing creatures that do so much to help the world....so this Spring I came up with these cute little busy bees....they are all happy because they are doing what they love.....They really are amazing...and we need to do things that help the bees....

Here are ten things you can do to help Honey Bees....

a few years back I started something called Help Me, Help People, Help You.... a site where partial proceeds from art went to help people in various countries learn to become bee keepers.....As bees search for nectar, they pollinate plants. Placed strategically, beehives can as much as double some fruit and vegetable yields. In this way, a beehive can be a boost to a whole village. Taking care of these bees also acts as a supplemental income for people in these needy countries...so this year I think these cute bees with help me raise more money that can help my Bees for a Cause Project 2011......In the first year we only raised 100.00 dollars but more than that we purchased bees , lessons and a hive for struggling families....and that in turn helped with their crops and in turn helped us...

So this year partial proceeds from my Busy Bees will help this cause again "BEE" cause I truly believe it makes a difference......

Spring and more help is needed....let's get back on track for 2010 with our Bee Project...

Hi Everyone....I was so happy to see that people are still helping with this wonderful cause....it is amazing what we can do with this....I have received a generous donation today...$30.00 that will go towards a new hive, box of bees and training for a deserving family that will become more self reliant and in turn help the worlds bee populations....

My heart grows as more of you participate in this wonderful cause....

There is only one queen in a bee hive and her main purpose in life is to make more bees. She can lay over 1,500 eggs per day and will live two to eight years. She is larger (up to 20mm) and has a longer abdomen than the workers or drones. She has chewing mouthparts. Her stinger is curved with no barbs on it and she can use it many times.

Drones are males and have no stinger. They live about eight weeks. Only a few hundred - at most - are ever present in the hive. Their sole function is to mate with a new queen, if one is produced in a given year. A drone's eyes are noticeably bigger than those of the other castes. This helps them to spot the queens when they are on their nuptial flight. Any drones left at the end of the season are considered non-essential and will be driven out of the hive to die.

Worker bees do all the different tasks needed to maintain and operate the hive. They make up the vast majority of the hive's occupants and they are all sterile females. When young, they are called house bees and work in the hive doing comb construction, brood rearing, tending the queen and drones, cleaning, temperature regulation and defending the hive. Older workers are called field bees. They forage outside the hive to gather nectar, pollen, water and certain sticky plant resins used in hive construction. Workers born early in the season will live about 6 weeks while those born in the fall will live until the following spring. Workers are about 12 mm long and highly specialized for what they do, with a structure called a pollen basket (or corbiculum) on each hind leg, an extra stomach for storing and transporting nectar or honey and four pairs of special glands that secrete beeswax on the underside of their abdomen. They have a straight, barbed stinger which can only be used once. It rips out of their abdomen after use, which kills the bee.

Hi Everyone...
we were off to a great start....but we want to keep moving forward with this great cause....

We have raised $70.00 so far and purchased 2 hives, 2 boxes of bees and training for two families....This cause really helps struggling people around the world so they can become self reliant for food and income. It also helps increase the bee populations. bees produce honey and was that struggling farmers can seel for income. Bees also pollinate fileds, often tripling crop yields....

Hi Everyone...some interesting facts about our little friend the Honey Bee!

1. The honey bee has been around for 30 million years.
2. It is the only insect that produces food eaten by man.
3. Honey bees are environmentally friendly and are vital as pollinators.
4. They are insects with a scientific name - Apis mellifera.
5. They have 6 legs, 2 eyes, and 2 wings, a nectar pouch, and a stomach.
6. The honeybee's wings stroke 11,400 times per minute, thus making their distinctive buzz.
7. A honey bee can fly for up to six miles, and as fast as 15 miles per hour, hence it would have to fly around 90,000 miles - three times around the globe - to make one pound of honey.
8. The average honey bee will actually make only one twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
9. It takes about 556 workers to gather 1 pound of honey from about 2 million flowers.
10. It takes one ounce of honey to fuel a bee’s flight around the world.
11. A honey bee visits 50 to 100 flowers during a collection trip.
12. A colony of bees consists of 20,000-60,000 honeybees and one queen.
13. Worker honey bees are female, live 6 to 8 weeks and do all the work.
14. The queen bee lives for about 2-3 years and is the only bee that lays eggs. She is the busiest in the summer months, when the hive needs to be at its maximum strength, and lays up to 2500 eggs per day.
15. The male honey bees are called drones, and they do no work at all, have no stinger, all they do is mating.
16. Each honey bee colony has a unique odour for members’ identification.
17. Only worker bees sting, and only if they feel threatened and they die once they sting. Queens have a stinger, but don’t leave the hive to help defend it.
18. It is estimated that 1100 honey bee stings are required to be fatal.
19. Honey bees communicate with one another by "dancing".
20. During winter, honey bees feed on the honey they collected during the warmer months. They form a tight cluster in their hive to keep the queen and themselves warm.

Hi Everyone...I was doing more research about the honey bees and found a fun and informative site called http://www.helpthehoneybees.com/ It is filled with wonderful information that will help you understand the reason I am helping increase overall bee populations....You can do a tour through the fields and see what fruits are dependant on honey bees for pollination....I think we take for granted what these wonderful creatures do in the world...but it is truly amazing.....

Hi Everyone....

I just wanted to let you know that we are so lucky to have so many generous and giving souls out there....today our fund went up to 60.00 with the help of a very generous Author named Carla Burke who donated $25.00. I also donated some money on behalf of my Dad...his birthday is tomorrow and I so wanted to buy atleast 2 hives for wonderful families....This has been a wonderful first week!!! please keep getting the word out on this wonderful cause...The more we raise, the more we give, the more we get....bless you all for your generosity and support....

I am happy to report that we sold our first print....I will create a special Heart with the money in our Bees for a Cause fund....I call this the "Money Bees" instead of Honey Bees....

The Launch of something special and dear to me...

Hi Everyone....

Today is the official start of something I hope changes the world in a special way. I just created my first art pieces for this cause. 10.00 dollars from each large printr and 5.00 from each small print sale goes towards a fund to purchase a package of bees, the box and hive, plus training in beekeeping for a special family that needs help. I think in these difficult economic times it may be difficult to help...but doing so will make you feel good. Pop by this blog for regular updates and get some great bee facts too....
